It is a depression with an approximate depth of 140 meters and a diameter of 160 meters, where countless parrots live. When descending about 20 meters down the walls of the chasm, you can see cave paintings, including handprints and figures of hunters.
La Sima de las Cotorras is a place to explore, observe birds and flora of the region, as well as to rest in the ecological cabins and taste the good cuisine of the restaurant where regional dishes are served.
It is recommended to visit this place at sunrise or sunset, as it is the ideal time to observe the departure or return of the parrots that inhabit this great natural pit, the show is an experience well worth living or if you prefer, you can rappel to the bottom of the abyss, where the flora and fauna is totally endemic.
From Tuxtla Gutierrez, take federal highway No. 190 that goes to Mexico City until you reach the municipality of Ocozocoautla de Espinosa, from here you should head north towards the San Luis ranchería (4 km of paved road), then you will travel 14 km of dirt road until you reach the town of Piedra Parada.
