Miramar Lagoon

For the adventurous, this jungle treasure is one of the most spectacular wonders of the Lacandon jungle, surrounded by lush jungle. Miramar Lagoon is one of the most beautiful lagoons in Mexico, it has an area of 16 km² and is located in the southwestern part of the Montes Azules Biosphere Reserve, at an approximate height of 200 meters above sea level, surrounded by low mountains ranging from 600 to 1,000 meters. In this lagoon there are islets and in some of them archaeological remains can be found.

From the town of San Quintín you travel 5.5 km to the Miramar Lagoon, crossing the Perlas River by a suspension bridge, continuing along a road that crosses extensive pastures and part of the jungle until you reach the lagoon, which is characterized by the turquoise blue of its waters.

How to get there

From Ocosingo to Altamirano by paved road, after 17 kilometers you will find a detour, turn left and follow 139 kilometers of dirt road to San Quintín and then to the town of Emiliano Zapata on a 5 kilometer road to reach the Miramar Lagoon.

From Comitán to San Quintín (6 hours); from Comitán to Amatitlán (3 hours) and 2 hours by boat to San Quintín; or by air from Comitán.
