This reserve is located along the Pacific coastline, in the municipalities of Mazatán, Huixtla, Villa Comaltitlán, Acapetahua, Mapstepec and Pijijiapan, decreed a protected area on June 15, 1995. It has an area of 144,868 hectares of common land, communal, private and national. It stands out for the abundance of unique mangroves in this part of the coastal areas, as well as for the channels and seasonally flooded lands.
It is possible to take a boat tour from the Las Garzas pier, through several estuaries densely populated by huge mangroves and where you can mainly observe resident and migratory water birds. On the islets it is also possible to see some specimens of the spider monkey, night monkey and ocelots; At the end of the tour you can see a huge lagoon from which a small island known as La Palma emerges where families dedicated to fishing live.
In this magnificent protected area it is possible to navigate through the mangrove swamps, observe a hundred native and migratory birds and observe crocodiles in their natural habitat, enjoy the beaches and the open sea of the Pacific, observe the amazing sea turtles that have their sanctuary of nesting in this part of the Chiapas coast.
