El Triunfo Biosphere Reserve

The Triunfo Biosphere Reserve is home to a quarter of Mexico's animal species, including the majestic jaguar.

The reserve area is part of the Sierra Madre de Chiapas. This mountainous region is elongated and extends northwest - southeast, parallel to the Chiapas coast. The geographical characteristics allow the existence of different ecosystems typical of temperate tropical climates and the transition between them, proof of this is the cloud forest ecosystem.

El Triunfo is home to endemic species such as the peacock bass, a bird with unique characteristics of this region, as well as the mythical quetzal; venerated by pre-Hispanic cultures, as well as others such as the tapir, the green nauyaca, the Chiapas rattle, the jaguar, puma, spider monkey, otter, king vulture and the elegant eagle.
