House of Teaching

Historic building in San Cristóbal de Las Casas Chiapas that housed the renowned Escuela Normal La Enseñanza for more than 71 years, which trained great educators from Chiapas and Southeast Mexico under the direction of Maestra María Adelina Flores. The building was built by the great neoclassical architect Don Carlos Zacarías Flores using the Vignola Code, which gave the city of San Cristóbal de Las Casas a neoclassical touch.

It was in 1915 when Carlos Z. Flores founded the elementary school in the Education Building, located in the heart of the city, on María Adelina Flores street, occupying half a block; and in 1919 the boarding school for young women was annexed, while in 1923 a secondary school and a normal school were expanded.
