The Baroque International Cervantino Festival, organized by the State Council for Cultures and the Arts of Chiapas (Coneculta) and the Honorable City Council of San Cristóbal de Las Casas, has become one of the state’s most representative cultural events. Set in a city renowned for its deep history, diversity, and vibrant artistic life, this festival offers a space for local, national, and international artists while strengthening the cultural identity that distinguishes San Cristóbal.
Committed to its social mission, the Cervantino Baroque Festival brings activities to neighborhoods, communities, schools, and public spaces, expanding access to the arts and enriching the cultural life of the region. Its multicultural program includes music, dance, theater, a book fair, photography, children's activities, academic initiatives, visual arts, literature, workshops, rituals, and expressions of Indigenous peoples. Performances also take place in emblematic venues such as churches, cultural centers, and alternative forums, featuring groups from Veracruz, son jarocho workshops, baroque concerts, puppet theater companies, regional artists, and emerging creative talents.
The festival extends across twelve venues, including nearby municipalities such as Zinacantán and Nuevo Rincón Chamula, with the aim of broadening its cultural reach and promoting greater regional integration. Notable locations include the Carlos Jurado Cultural Center, the El Carmen Cultural Center, La Enseñanza, the San Cristóbal Museum (MUSAC), and several temples where baroque concerts are performed by the Chiapas Symphony Orchestra and local choral ensembles.
In parallel, the Chiapas–Oaxaca Arts Encounter and the Festival of Great Master Artisans of Chiapas enrich the experience with exhibitions of painting, ceramics, and masterpieces of folk art.
