Zacapulco Barra

It is characterized by mainly having large extensions of natural estuaries with mangroves and open sea, in addition to being within the La Encrucijada Biosphere Reserve. Barra de Zacapulco is a place that can be visited throughout the year. One of the main characteristics of this area is the evergreen mangroves, which reach up to 35 meters. high, considered the highest in the Mexican Pacific.
 


Flora

In this place you can see large and complex mangrove forests, among which are: red mangrove (Rhozophora mangle), which is the most abundant; black mangrove or buttonwood (Conocarpues erectus); white mangrove (Angucario racemosa); yellow mangrove (Rizofora harissonii) and mother salt (Avicennia germinans). Also large areas of Tulares with species such as tule (Typha dominguenesìs), Cyperrus sp and Scirpus validus. It is also common to find ferns, piñuelas, lilies, platanillo and Heliconia sp species, among others.

 
Fauna

There are more than 90 species of migratory birds, such as the blue teal, the white pelican, the magnificent frigatebird, the long-sanded, among others; You can also see rare birds that use this area as a nesting site, such as the roseate spoonbill, the candida and the cigarillo.

 
Aspects of Culture

It is considered a Biosphere Reserve, with an area of 144,868 hectares decreed on June 5, 1995. It has Mangroves up to 35 meters high, considered the highest in North and Central America, in addition to varied flora and fauna.
