Chiapa de Corzo

Chiapa de Corzo is one of the oldest cities on the continent, located on the right bank of the Grande or Grijalva river. It stands out as the first element of its cultural heritage, the regular layout, the result of the fusion of Renaissance urban ideals with the features of the pre-Hispanic city. Its architectural beauty is based on the Mudejar style. Examples of this are the temple and convent of Santo Domingo and the fountain or font that enhances the main square, in fact it is one of the largest in the country. Our recommendations on your trip

Chiapa de Corzo is a colonial site of tradition and culture, framed with the warmth of its people, an urban extension of the capital city. Its location makes it a city with a hot and humid climate, so here we suggest the following:

  • The optimal months to visit are from November to May when there is generally no rain.
  • Take into account that the months of April, May and June are the hottest (between 39º. To 42º). Do not forget to wear fresh clothes, preferably cotton, linen or a hat to mitigate the sun's rays. Long sleeve shirt if you make the river tour to the Sumidero Canyon
  • It is essential to wear comfortable shoes, sunglasses and sunscreen.
  • Between June and the beginning of October the rain is very frequent and it is necessary not to forget to bring an umbrella or raincoat with you.
  • There are three cooperatives of boats to make the river route to the Sumidero Canyon. Take into account that if you travel alone, you will have to take the collective service, minimum 10 people or otherwise you will have to pay for the special or private service and the cost increases.
