Temple of San Juan Bautista

An example of the churches known as Indian towns because of their rectangular plan, austere façade with a bell gable and covered with wood and tile. Possibly from the 17th century. It stands out for its colorful flowery doorway and its coral window. It is very important for the intangible heritage that it represents in its interior ceremonies.

The fame of this temple is due to the syncretic rituals that, with unique devotion and solemnity, are practiced inside the temple 24 hours a day, especially in its famous carnival. Current practices, influenced by 16th century religious traditions, were adapted to older religious traditions. It is important to take into account that it is totally forbidden to take pictures inside the temple. Doing so merits a sanction from the religious authorities.
