The most famous inhabitants of the Lacandon Jungle have been a highly studied social group in Chiapas, valuing their objects of common use in beautiful handicrafts. Bows, arrows, small sculptures carved in wood, are a sample of the enormous wealth of the Lacandones. The beautiful Chiapas textiles synthesize a cultural history of millennia. We find that the figures are much more than simple ornaments, as they have a symbolism that goes back to the worldview of the pre-Hispanic Mayans.
