Parachico Race

Plaza de Armas, Chiapa de Corzo

Every January, the town of Chiapa de Corzo bursts with joy, color, and tradition during La Fiesta Grande, one of the most emblematic celebrations in Chiapas. As part of this festivity, the traditional Parachico Race takes place — a sporting and cultural event that brings together local, national, and international runners.

Participants can choose from three distances: 2 km, 5 km, and 15 km. The 15 km route starts in Tuxtla Gutiérrez and finishes at the Plaza de Armas in Chiapa de Corzo.

Categories include both men’s and women’s divisions, and all runners enjoy a safe route with hydration stations, medical assistance, and traffic support along the course.

As a symbol of pride and tradition, the first runners to cross the finish line in each category receive a Parachico mask, a unique distinction that embodies the essence of this great celebration.

After the race, the festivities continue — enjoy a refreshing cacao pozol, the cheerful rhythm of the marimba, and immerse yourself in the magic and hospitality of this Pueblo Mágico, rich in history, flavor, and culture.
