National Macabil and Tenguayaca Sport Fishing Championship
21 de Febrero
Sumidero Canyon National Park
The majestic Sumidero Canyon, one of the most iconic natural wonders of Chiapas, serves as the setting for the National Macabil and Tenguayaca Sport Fishing Championship, organized by the Mexican Federation of Sport Fishing in coordination with the Chiapas Association of Sport Fishers.
Held during the month of February, this tournament marks the first major gathering of the year for sport fishers from across Mexico. It has become a national benchmark for its high level of competition, its incomparable natural surroundings, and the renowned hospitality of the people of Chiapas.
As in previous editions, the Chiapas Association has carefully prepared every detail to provide the best possible conditions for participating teams from different states. Their goal: to earn the title of National Champions and the honor of representing Mexico in Pan-American or international competitions throughout the year.
The competitions will take place in teams of two participants per boat, on Saturday and Sunday from 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., within the waters of the Sumidero Canyon National Park. Participation is open to men and women who are members of the Federation and possess both a valid individual recreational sport fishing permit and their current membership card.
The competition format establishes a capture limit, with scoring based on the three heaviest macabiles and two heaviest tenguayacas caught. On Sunday afternoon, the event will conclude with the awards and closing ceremony at the Chiapa de Corzo dock, attended by officials, organizers, and competitors.
It should be noted that activity schedules within the National Park may be adjusted according to weather conditions.
The National Macabil and Tenguayaca Championship not only promotes sport and friendly competition but also fosters sustainable tourism and showcases the natural beauty of Chiapas, inviting visitors and participants alike to discover the splendor of the Sumidero Canyon and the warmth of its people.
