Every October 3rd, La Cruz Grande neighborhood celebrates the Feast of Saint Thérèse of the Child Jesus, a religious tradition that strengthens the identity and community life of this historic area, once the entrance to the Camino Real.
The celebration begins on September 25th with a novena, morning Masses, and floral offerings. Prior to the festivities, the traditional “muda” takes place, when the saint’s image is dressed in new garments that she will wear throughout the year.
The temple, notable for the unique placement of its altar in one corner, is also a place of devotion to the Virgin of the Miraculous Medal. During the festive period, the religious celebration is complemented by a commercial fair offering cultural activities, popular dances, and amusement rides.
The festivity is a living expression of faith and tradition that enriches Comitán’s religious calendar.
