Every year, from June 21 to 29, Mapastepec celebrates its patron saint, Saint Peter the Apostle, with a festival that fills the town with faith and joy. This religious and cultural celebration brings together communities, visitors, and families from the Soconusco region.

Festivities begin on June 21 at 5:00 a.m. with a procession through the town’s churches and streets, accompanied by marimba music and parade floats. The route ends with a solemn mass at the Parish of Saint Peter the Apostle, located across from Lic. Benito Juárez García Park.

In the afternoons, starting at 5:00 p.m., offerings from the parish’s communities are received, strengthening unity among the villages. The central park becomes a stage for cultural expressions, featuring folk and traditional dances and marimba music for everyone’s enjoyment.

On June 29, the closing pilgrimage takes place, beginning at the Chapel of the Virgin of Guadalupe and continuing along the main avenue to the parish, where a mass in honor of Saint Peter is celebrated. At the end, the traditional beef barbacoa is offered to all attendees as a gesture of hospitality and celebration. The day concludes with a popular dance featuring a local music group, creating a joyful, family-friendly atmosphere.
