The Day of Saint Joseph is a Catholic celebration honoring the earthly father of Jesus and protector of the Holy Family. Festivities begin on March 11 with a novena and evening Eucharistic celebrations that gather faithful and visitors.
On March 19, the main day of the commemoration in the Pueblo Mágico of Comitán de Domínguez, the day begins with traditional morning serenades. Religious activities such as rosaries and liturgical ceremonies take place throughout the day. One of the most representative moments is the floral offering organized by the carpenters’ guild, who honor their patron saint with flowers symbolizing gratitude and faith.
During the festive period, the church atrium becomes a social and commercial gathering space where visitors can purchase wooden handicrafts, textiles, and enjoy traditional cuisine such as tamales de momón, one of Comitán’s typical dishes.
