The Feast of Saint John the Baptist is Ocozocoautla de Espinosa’s main religious and cultural festival, celebrated annually from June 23 to 25 in honor of the town’s patron saint. This traditional festivity brings together religious ceremonies, music, gastronomy, fireworks, and popular events. It is a time for families, neighborhoods, and visitors to reunite and joyfully celebrate this emblematic occasion.
Each year, from June 23 to 25, Ocozocoautla de Espinosa transforms into a festive town proudly honoring its patron saint, Saint John the Baptist. The parish bells ring loudly, announcing that the fair has begun and that faith and joy will once again fill the streets, homes, and hearts.Mornings start with bell chimes, fireworks, and solemn masses. The streets are decorated with colorful paper while devotees accompany the saint in processions filled with prayers, songs, and flowers. Devotion intertwines with culture as neighborhoods organize to fill the streets with traditional music.
In the afternoons and evenings, the fair comes to life with amusement rides, marimbas, dances, concerts, and fireworks that light up the Coiteco sky. This celebration not only honors Saint John the Baptist but also strengthens collective memory, social bonds, and pride in the Zoque roots of the municipality.
For three days, Ocozocoautla does not simply celebrate a patronal feast—it celebrates its history, its identity, and the strength of a community united each year to pay tribute to its spiritual protector through generations.
