Traditional festival, which consists of music, dance, crafts, gastronomy and religious ceremonies. The famous Parachicos and Chiapanecas participate, among other characters such as the chuntas and tuxtlequitas, undoubtedly the biggest party in the state, full of color and tradition.
The city of Chiapa de Corzo celebrates the mestizo integration with a community ritual, the best known and most intense in the Chiapaneco world: the Fiesta de los Parachicos, "la Fiesta Grande de Chiapa". The whole city participates in this party, one of the most traditional in Mexico, which culminates with a meal called "Comida Grande". This fiesta is famous for the colorful parade of the Parachicos (masked dancers), the parade of floats that leads the representation of the legendary figure of the benefactress Doña María de Angulo and the simulation of a naval combat with fireworks that takes place on the Grijalva River on the night of January 21. There are also special masses and traditional dances are held throughout the city.
The term Fiesta Grande is due to the fact that the inhabitants of that city, as a whole, celebrate several saints: the Lord of Esquipulas, San Antonio Abad and the main one San Sebastian, the patron saint.
