The Biggest Snook Fishing Contest is organized by the residents of Ranchería Unión Santa Isabel, in the municipality of Mapastepec, together with cooperative members and neighboring communities. This event promotes local fishing traditions and tourism in the area.
The contest was first held during the week before Holy Week, with the goal of showcasing the community’s ecotourism potential — including fishing, boat tours, and kayaking. Unión Santa Isabel, though a small and rural community, has great natural and tourism value. The event seeks to attract visitors not only from the municipality but also from all over Chiapas.
